Sam — Hazmat NPC Guide
Who is Sam in Animal Hospital Roblox? Calico cat hazmat worker, $250 hire for three shifts, slime cleanup, fire help, and Hider handling after Hazmat event.

Who Is Sam
Sam is a calico cat NPC in a hazmat suit introduced July 25, 2026 with The Hazmat Team Arrives update. Formerly Animal Corporation containment staff, he offers hospital employment after players survive the green slime special shift featuring Slimebert.
Sam is mechanical helper NPC — not a Shutter patient, not a Class, not romance or meme character. He patrols autonomously when hired, handling tasks players often neglect during chaotic nights.
Wiki documents Sam from GosuGamers patch coverage and in-game hire UI verified August 2026.
Hiring Sam — Cost and Duration
After surviving Hazmat slime shift, Sam offers work for $250 Animal Coins covering three Shifts. Payment upfront from inter-Shift wallet — budget before buying Coffee stock or Firefighter unlock same session.
Sam leaves when floors are clean and no slime active; returns automatically when contamination reappears in future special shifts if previously hired in run context — verify live UI each patch.
Three-shift window suits mid-run economy boost, not permanent staff like class passives.
What Sam Does
Sam cleans slime residue on floors, assists room fire containment, and handles Hider groups stealing items. He ignores Ghost corridor entity and cannot stun or remove Slimebert during active Hazmat event — do not expect mid-shift rescue from digestion.
Sam reduces runner workload on double-event nights — pair with Firefighter player chaining extinguisher stuns while Sam mops aftermath.
Desk players still own five-point checks — Sam never replaces Shutter operator.
When to Hire Sam
Hire if your lobby sees repeat Hazmat RNG every few nights and $250 will not delay Surgeon unlock critical path. Skip if still grinding Shift 3–6 coin poverty — core class passives beat temporary NPC.
Journal entry for Sam fills on first hire — claim lobby coin bonus from guides/journal.
Co-op: one player negotiates hire UI during intermission while others stock shop.
Sam Versus Other NPCs
Barney: story Event with coffee machine choice. Liz: Shift 10+ journalist quest. Ratthew: multi-visit key lore. Sam: paid utility cleaner post-Hazmat — clearest economic NPC relationship.
Ron from Accounting never appears physically — email lore only in Dr. Harlow office. See characters/ron.
Do not confuse Sam hazmat suit with Hazmat Team NPCs who clean during event — Sam is hireable aftermath helper.
Sam Summary
Sam: calico hazmat cat, $250 for three shifts after surviving Slimebert night. Cleans slime, helps fires, handles Hiders. Ignores Ghost, cannot stop active Slimebert. Optional economy pick for repeat slime lobbies. Cross-read events/hazmat and enemies/slimebert.

Practical note for characters/sam (tip 1): before ending a Shift, confirm every patient in the rooms related to this guide is either discharged or still recovering on a bed. Leaving a half-treated case unresolved bleeds Shift score and makes the next Shift harder because your team starts with lower Sanity and fewer Animal Coins for Coffee.
